No one has ever become poor by giving.
― Anne Frank,
This year I have been inspired to do the 40 Hour Famine. I participated in the 40HF two years ago this year I decided I would give it a shot. It’s been a great journey so far. Not only have my family and friends been generous in their support by giving, but a few have also jumped on board to participate. All together we have raised over $450! Which is absolutely amazing! This Sunday at our church we will be hosting a bake sale. Which I’m really stoked about! Some of my amazing friends are all baking some yummy sweets to sell!
Participating in the 40HF has helped me to remember the importance of being practical in my faith through giving to those who are in need and trusting God with my money. Saying that I am a Christian is one thing but actually living out my faith through how I treat people, the words I speak and even the way I spend me money is whole different thing.
Participating the 40HF requires that each person gives up something, whether it’s food, technology or furniture. Doesn’t matter. the goal is to go without something for 40 hours. In a world were we are told to take as much as we can giving up something may seem crazy. Yet, it’s funny to think this is exactly what is required for us to follow Jesus. In Mark 10v17,21-22,
And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”…. And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
The 40 Hour Famine is just a small way in which we can live out this principle of following Jesus. It gives young people the opportunity a chance to look beyond themselves. To make a difference in the lives of those who are most in need. To be able to put aside what’s going on in their lives for 40 hours or more to help make a difference in someone’s life.
By showing your support by giving to a participant can make all the difference in the world. Not only to the people receiving the funds but to whom ever you are deciding to support!
Thanks for your support!
